On April 6th 2009, the angels gathered and rejoiced as God welcomed His best and sweetest gardener home. Lorene Vara Covington Mayne Harris began her earthly journey May 8, 1918 in Hillsborough, Texas, the 5th child of Fonzo and Eunice Covington. After high school she went to beautician school in Ariz. There she met and married Everett Miles Mayne. Three children were born to them. They moved their family to Utah in 1952 and she had to retake the classes for her beauticians' license before beginning a successful career in Springville. She also worked at the Utah State Hospital and was instrumental in starting the youth area. A tragic car accident forced her early retirement from the hospital in 1964. After her divorce from Everett she married Kenneth B. Harris and they lived in Springville, Tooele, Sandy and St. George. Four years after Ken's death she moved back to Springville and resided with her daughter and son in law for 3 1/2 years. She then moved to Reid's Park Place where she enjoyed the company of so many wonderful residents and staff. She had beautiful gardens and flowers wherever she went. She was always willing to give to anyone that she felt may need the extra help. Her greatest joys were spent with her family and with her siblings at their bi annual reunions.
Lorene sadly leaves behind Fonzo Edwin (Joannie) Mayne, Tucson AZ., William Lester Mayne, Tucson AZ., and Margaret (Dennis) Sabey, Springville. She also adopted Ken's 3 children who all live in Hawaii, Brad, Martin, and Kauana Harris. She has 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren. She's survived by 4 siblings, Burl Covington, Jim Covington, Corrine Luther and Nettie Brockhause. She's preceded in death by her parents, spouse and four siblings.
There will be a viewing held Wednesday, April 8, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville. Open mic. graveside services will be held at Timpanogos Memorial Gardens of Orem, 400 E. 1000 North on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.
