Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, gr-grand father, and gr-gr-grandfather, Lofter Clair Bowen, passed away at home, Wed., June 11, 2008, after 81 years of a happy and fulfilling life. He was born in Spanish Fork, Utah, March 28, 1927, to William Jones and Gudrun Dena Bjarnason Bowen. He was the youngest of nine children: Ellen (Isaac) Taylor, Lois (Sherman) Christensen, Ray (Mae), Donna (Willard) Wood, Ruth (Harold) Schauer, Dora (Pete Brimhall & Mont) Davis, David (Fairy) Bowen, Allen "Doc" (Jean) Bowen.
He attended schools in Spanish Fork and graduated from high school 1945. Clair served honorably in the U. S. Navy 1945-46, as a hospital corpsman during WWII, at Oakland California and Corpus Christi Texas. He married his "dream girl", Jean Boyer of Springville, Utah, on December 27, 1947. They were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple August, 1958. They became parents of: Susan (Henry) Reynolds, Mary Ann (deceased), Wm. Michael (Debbie) Bowen, Nancy (Max) Perkins, Dena (Reed) Nielsen; with twelve grandchildren: Tyler, Alex, David, Caleb, & Wyatt Perkins; Amy (Christofer) Hickman, Charles (deceased), William, & Joseph (Lisa) Nielsen; Sarah and Audrey Bowen; and Jennifer (Jacob) Tanner; ten great-grandchildren: Chaelisa Nielsen, Ambyr, Brody, Rainy, & Bridget Hickman; Sophia & Matalynn Perkins; Aiden Perkins; and Michael & Simeon Tanner; one great-great-grandson Charles Nielsen (our 5th generation baby).
In 1947, he enlisted in the U S Army National Guard, 145th Field Artillery Battalion Battery C. Stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas and Ft. Sill, Oklahoma during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with medical release after eight years of service to his country. Graduated from BYU with a BS of Accounting and Business Administration.
Clair was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and served in many callings: Stake Sunday School Secretary, Ward Sunday School Superintendency, Elders' Quorum President, Priest Quorum Advisor, Home Teacher, Ward Clerk, Bishopric 1st Counselor, Activities Chairman, High Priest Group Leader, Temple Worker and served with many Bishops as Ward Financial Clerk. His pride and joy was his family and spending time with them. He was their role model, example and hero; showing loving kindness, patience, and generosity to everyone.
He loved his farm in Spanish Fork and continued gardening his whole life. He loved the Navy and loved his Country, enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends, history of all kinds, spent hours researching family history and doing temple work. Big BYU fan and movie buff. His wonderful sense of humor and life stories kept us all entertained and happy.
Preceding him in death are his parents and siblings (spouses), one daughter, and one grandson. Survived by his loving wife and family and two sisters-in-law Jean (Doc) Bowen, and Fairy (David) Bowen and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing Sunday, June 15, 6-8 PM at Wheeler Mortuary at 211 E 200 S, Springville, Utah. Also, viewing Monday, June 16 at 10-11 AM and funeral services at 11 AM at the church on 350 N 400 E, Springville, Utah. Burial at Springville Evergreen Cemetery with Military Rights.
