Loeen Crandall Whiting

December 16, 1921 — September 4, 2008

Our mother passed September 4, 2008 with her family beside her. She was born on December 16, 1921 in Springville, Utah to Edgar Vernon and Slyvia Mae Crandall. She was the fifth of seven children. Bliss (deceased), Hortense (deceased), Elaine, Ruel (deceased), Carma and LaMar (Sonny). She was taught at a very young age the principle of hard work, which she has done all of her life.

She attended schools in Springville and graduated from Springville High School in 1940. Mother married our dad, Niel Whiting on April 30, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with five children: Sid Whiting (Theasa), Connie Warren (Jesse), Ila Pennington (Allan), Lynette Allan-Osborne (Bud), and Todd Whiting (Sue Ann).

She worked as a farmer's wife and homemaker for many years. Then later worked for Central Bank for 17 years. Part of the time as the manager of the Mapleton Bank, retiring in 1989.

She had many hobbies including cooking. She enjoyed giving bread, pie, and roll demonstrations throughout Utah County. She has made over 100 Levi quilts and gave most of them away. She had a love of gardening and working in her yard. Mother was a great example for her legacy of hard work, community and church service and family values.

She leaves behind her five children, 13 grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, 23 great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Niel (1983), grandson Kit Allan (1998), and son-in-law Greg Allan (1999).

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 475 North 1600 West in Mapleton. There will be a viewing held Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 82 West 400 North in Mapleton and at the church on Monday one hour prior to the services.
