Leon Earl "Hutch" Hutchings

March 21, 1927 — October 23, 2010

Leon Earl Hutchings of Springville, passed away on October 23, 2010. He was born March 21, 1927, in Lehi, Utah, to Chester Willis and Ada Eva Pelkey Hutchings.



Leon grew up in several different towns in Utah with Provo being the final move at the age of eleven. He attended Provo schools including the Technical School. He married Marcia Hutchings on February 28, 1945, in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He worked at Ironton Steel Mill, as a heavy equipment operator, until its closure in 1962. He then moved to Lander, Wyoming, and worked at Atlantic City Ore Operations until his retirement in 1984, returning to Springville that same year. Leon loved the outdoors, whether it be hunting, fishing, or riding for enjoyment in the mountains. He was a master gardener and found great satisfaction working the soil. Leon was active in the LDS Church and served in many positions throughout his life.



He is survived by his wife, Marcia, of Springville; two daughters, Anne (Jason) Christopherson, and Gwen Hutchings, both of Springville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Marsh, of Lander, Wyoming; several brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Beth Smith, and two brothers, Willis and Daryl Hutchings.



Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at 11:00 am, at the Springville Stake House, 245 S 600 E, Springville. A viewing will be held Tuesday at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E 200 S, Springville from 6 to 8 pm, and Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
