Leona Isabell Aston Roylance, 82, beloved sister, mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at her home surrounded by family on November 15, 2016.
Leona was born December 17, 1933, in Provo, Utah, to Ray and Isabell Aston. She was raised in Provo and attended schools there, graduating from Provo High School in 1952. Through the classes she took, she discovered her talent for sewing and her love of music by learning to play the violin. She also worked hard to achieve her goal of becoming a cheerleader. This personal achievement led to the dating, falling in love, and marrying of her future husband.
Leona and John married March 25, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Mapleton in 1961 and have made it their home for the last 55 years, raising their eight children and making many dear friends.
Leona was an amazing mother. She loved each of us individually and collectively. She served her family with kindness, compassion, quiet strength, hard work, long-suffering, selflessness and a listening ear. Throughout her life, Leona was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her callings included Primary president and Young Women’s leader and teacher, with her favorite being athletic director for the young women. Later in life, she spent nearly 25 years doing extraction work with her friend, Colleen. However, the most satisfying of all her church callings was supporting and serving side by side with her husband in his many leadership positions. They later served a family history mission in the Utah Area South Mission for more than 10 years.
Leona is preceded in death by her husband, John Roylance, her parents, and her two older brothers, Lloyd and Keith Aston. She is survived by her eight children and their spouses: Kyle and Cindy Roylance, Pamela and Dennis Wilson, Janice and Ron Gonzales, Diane and Korry Bird, Eugene and Camille Roylance, Cheryl and Stan Beagley, Nancy and Barry Wollenzien, and Gordon and Tanya Roylance, 37 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at the White Church, 31 W. Maple St. in Mapleton. There will be a viewing prior to the service at the church from 11:00 to 12:30 pm and Monday evening, November 21st at the Wheeler Mortuary, 82 W. 400 N., Mapleton from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
