1924~2013
Leland Gordon Twitchell was born February 18, 1924 in Delta, Utah, the first child of Leland Twitchell (a miner) and Melba Steele Twitchell.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He died August 7, 2013 surrounded by loving family at home after a short illness.
He had one sister, Lois, and four brothers: Kendel Steele, Bryant Kay, Grant Lynn and Bernard Steele Twitchell. His mother died in October 1935 of pneumonia, leaving these 6 children. Since their father was a miner and his work was far from home, the children were divided up and assigned to different relatives where they grew up far from each other with very rare opportunities of reunions.
Gordon went to live with Roy and Chlora Twitchell who lived in Delta. He was older than their children and was put to work helping his uncle. He began hard work early and he never stopped that habit.
In High School he learned to love football. He became the quarterback on the Delta High School team and was good enough to have that position for all of his High School years in spite of being 5 foot 8 inches with a top weight of 165 pounds. He went on to school at Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City, Utah, where he was quarterback for that team - playing both offense and defense. He also loved bowling and golf.
He wanted to join the armed services when the 2

World War began, but having had rheumatic fever he was left with a heart murmur and was denied enlistment. Undeterred, he joined the Merchant Marines and served on different ships in the Pacific during the remainder of the war with some exciting experiences.
He met his sweetheart at BYU and they were married in the Mesa temple in 1950. They had 4 wonderful children - Vivian, John Edward, David Gordon and Hans Brandon. At the time of his passing he is survived by his wife, Geniel, and their children and spouses as well as 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He had an Upholstery & Carpet business for 20 years in Cedar City and southern Utah. He then bought, operated, improved and sold motel properties In Provo, Fillmore, Nephi, and Price, Utah.
He has served well in the LDS church in various positions in several Wards and almost 17 years in the Provo temple. He and his wife served a full time mission in Virginia and afterward 2 missions at the MTC in Provo, Utah.
He will be sorely missed.
