Lela Marie Rutledge Averett of Springville, passed away on Mother's Day May 13, 2012, one week short of her 85th birthday. Lela was born May 20, 1927 to Ernest L and Zola Fern Rutledge of Lehi. Lela married Clyde S. Averett on September 30, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on September 28, 1963.
Lela graduated from Lehi High School where she excelled in basketball and track. She enjoyed bowling and was an all-state bowler. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and took every opportunity to support them. She enjoyed cross-stitching, traveling with her husband, and watching the Utah Jazz. She loved her yearly Christmas and family parties. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Primary President, Relief Society President, and visiting teacher. She was active in scouting and received the Silver Beaver Award.
Lela is survived by her husband Clyde, Springville; children Eileen (Jack) Anderson, Ephraim; Kenneth (Roz) Averett, Springville; Kelly Averett, Salem; and Janine Hatfield, Santaquin; 16 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, two sister-in-laws and 1 brother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers; Glen and Don, 1 grandchild and 1 great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Saturday May 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spring Creek Ninth Ward Chapel, located at 355 E Center Street, Springville. Friends and family may call at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South Friday, May 18th, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. or Saturday at the Church prior to the service 9:45-10:45. Burial will be in the Springville Historic City Cemetery.
