1921 ~ 2012
Leah Hunter Crandall, loving mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on December 16, 2012 surrounded by her family. Leah was born October 14, 1921 in Lehi, Utah to Ebenezer John and Alvera Thomas Hunter. She attended schools in Provo, graduating from Provo High School. Leah married Ruel Edgar Crandall on November 21, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple. Her life soon revolved around being a farmer's wife, a mother to their five daughters and one son, a cook, seamstress, and a wonderful example of love and service to her family and friends.
On January 24, 1966 a tragic accident took the lives of her husband, son Eric and daughter Julie. Faced with this heartbreak, Leah put her faith in the Lord and pulled her little family together. She worked as a secretary at Sage Creek and then Brookside Elementary School until she was 72 years of age. She also filled her time volunteering as a Pink Lady at UVRMC. She was a member of the Cultural Arts Club where she made many lasting friendships. Leah was very active in the LDS church and served faithfully in many callings in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society Organizations. She also served many years as a worker in the Provo temple. Her greatest joy came from her children and extended family who love her deeply. Her influence over them is profound, and only becomes greater as they grow and raise children, utilizing all that she taught them through her love and example.
Survived by her children: Melanie (Lynn) Satterthwaite, Liberty, Utah, Christine (Richard) Thorpe, Mapleton, Utah, Linda (Calvin) Bird, Springville, Utah, Lesa (Eric) Hyer, Springville, Utah, a brother Art (Norma) Hunter, Sandy, Utah, sister-in-law Carma Crandall Martin, Baltimore, Maryland, 18 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Julie Crandall, son Eric Hunter Crandall, parents, and sister Virginia Freestone Harbaugh.
