LaVon Petra Squire Burningham

Our sweet mom, La Von Petra Squire Burningham, 84, of Springville, UT, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Orem Nursing and Rehab of kidney failure. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Utah on January 9, 1926 to George Edward, and Utah Christine Jensen Squire.



La Von married Stanley Clark Burningham of American Falls, Idaho in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 1, 1948. They lived in Mt. Pleasant before beginning their 56 year residence in Springville.



La Von graduated with honors from Sanpete High School in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, where she participated in the student council. She graduated from Brigham Young University in Elementary Education. La Von played the flute in the BYU symphonic orchestra and was the editor of the yearbook staff. This was the beginning of a lifetime interest in literature and writing. She was a published author with articles in "Trailer Life", "The Instructor", "Reader's Digest," and "The Children's Friend".



La Von was a talented teacher who taught in Nebo School District for 35 years. She taught at Sage Creek, Brookside, and Mapleton Elementary schools. She had a positive impact in the lives of hundreds of students.



An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, La Von served in many positions, but especially enjoyed her calling as an instructor in Relief Society. She and her husband Stanley served faithfully in the Provo Temple for 5 years.



She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, wit, and wisdom, and was adored by her family.



La Von is survived by her daughters; Jan (Robert) Chappell of The Woodlands, Texas; Carol (Don) Walker of Springville, Utah; sister Erma (Mike) Rollins, of Billings, MT; brother, Paul (Sue) Squire of Salt Lake City; grandchildren, Cheryl (Travis) Avery, Brent (Elizabeth) Chappell, Brad (Elizabeth) Chappell, Michelle (Jacob) Moon, Micquelle (Kyle) Curtis, and Mitchell Walker, as well as nine great grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, a sister, Helen Squire Madsen, and a brother, Phil Squire.



A heartfelt "Thank You" is extended to all the wonderful people who cared for and loved mom at Courtyard at Jamestown, Utah Valley Specialty Hospital, Orem Nursing and Rehab, and Alpine Hospice.



Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Hidden Cove Chapel 2379 River Bottom Road, Springville, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00-9:45 a.m. prior to services or at Wheeler Mortuary Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
