Lavell Randall Green

October 8, 1926 — November 23, 2010

Lavell Randall Green, age 84 of Springville, Utah peacefully passed away in his home, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 23, 2010.

Lavell was born October 8, 1926 in Lennox, Los Angeles, California to Rawlston Poole Green and Alice Randall Green. He was the fourth of five children. He had many happy memories of his childhood in Gridley, California and moved to San Bernardino, California at the age of fourteen where he met the love of his life, Betty LaVonne Brown. Lavell and Betty were married in the St. George LDS Temple on November 9, 1946 following Lavell's service during World War II in the United States Navy. Lavell and Betty made their home in San Bernardino, California, Yucaipa, California and Springville, Utah.

Lavell graduated from San Bernardino High School and earned an Associate's degree from San Bernardino Valley College. He worked as an electrician for the Santa Fe Railroad for fifteen years before accepting a job with the State of California Department of Corrections. Over his thirty year career, Lavell progressed through the ranks at the Norco Rehabilitation Center, retiring as Program Administrator in 1992.

Lavell, also known as Lou, was a talented athlete who was involved in sports most of his life. 'Lou Green' is a legend pitcher in Southern California fast pitch softball. Though softball was his love, he also played basketball, refereed, umpired and coached. He golfed into his eighties, often outscoring his sons. Lavell and Betty are avid Utah Jazz fans. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served as stake athletic director for many years, inspiring youth and adults to reach for good sportsmanship and excellence. Other church callings include Scout Master, Cub Scout Leader, MIA President, dance instructor, Elder's Quorum President, Ward Clerk, High Priest Group Leadership and teacher. He loved home teaching and seldom missed visiting his families.

Lavell had a profound faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a powerful example of unconditional love. He had a keen interest in the people around him and reached out to help whenever he could. His family, co-workers, neighbors and friends know him as being generous, genuine, honest, and kind, truly Christian.

Lavell is survived by his wife, Betty, and children; Dennis (Debbie) Green, Timothy (Susan) Green, Dayna (John) Tanner, Mark (Wendy) Green, Steven (Ashley) Green and Shelly Williams, 29 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one great, great grandson, and sisters, Martha Taylor and Dawna Brink. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Keith and Gayle and grandson, Dennis Lavell Green II. Devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Lavell will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank caring nurses and doctors at Huntsman Cancer Hospital and UVRMC, with special thanks to Nancy, our hospice nurse.
