SPRINGVILLE, UTAH - LaMar V. "Sonny" Crandall, 83, passed away on January 14, 2009 of congestive heart failure, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born June 28, 1925 in Springville to Edgar Vernon and Sylvia Hansen Crandall. He was the youngest of seven children.
LaMar attended schools in Springville and in Logan at Utah State University. He married Delores Childs on June 22, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they had six children. Delores passed away October 11, 2003.
LaMar was very active in the LDS Church serving as Bishop of the Springville Second Ward and in the Kolob Stake Presidency, among other callings. He was awarded Utah Cattleman of the Year for distinguished service from the Utah Cattleman's Association. He served on the board and as president of the Strawberry Water Users Association. He also served as president of the Springville Irrigation Company and the Big Hollow Irrigation Company for many years.
He loved working with his father and brother and his sons in the farming and ranching business. Working his ranch in Robertson, Wyoming was a passion that he enjoyed for the past 19 years. His posterity is appreciative of his work ethic and the honor he has brought to his name. They value his integrity and his example of life's lessons learned over the years.
LaMar is survived by his children: Carolyn Crandall, Trinity, Florida; Joan (Eric) Orton, Mapleton; JoEll Finch, Payson; Cathy (Wayne) Lloyd, South Jordan; Craig C. (Elizabeth) Crandall, Chesterfield, Idaho; and Calvin V. (Kathryn) Crandall, Springville; 23 grandchildren, and 27 great- grandchildren, sisters, Elaine Jackson, Springville and Carma Martin, Maryland; and sister-in-law, Leah Crandall, Springville. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Evan L. Crandall; siblings: Bliss H. Crandall, Hortense Harward, Ruel E. Crandall, and Loeen Whiting.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Kolob Fifth Ward Building, 1230 South 500 East, Springville. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Saturday at the church and from 6 to 8 PM on Friday evening at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville.
