My Dear Sweet Mother Katherine Mallard Mason joined her husband dancing through the Veil on October 21, 2024, in the home of her daughter and Son-in-law Tawnia and Michael Glidewell.
She was born April 22,1935, on her parent's anniversary in the same log house her grandmother had many of her children in Malad, Idaho. She was born to Walter Marion Mallard and Catherine Roberts Mallard and was the second daughter. Her older sister was Donna Agnes and later Joyce, her baby sister (whom she adored), joined the family.
She was a proud member of “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” and had a strong Testimony of the restored gospel and would share it often. She loved Jesus Christ and had a deep personal relationship with him, receiving many revelations throughout her life. She would always trust in the Lord for all her decisions and turn to him in times of trials, knowing that he would always be by her side.
When she was just a baby, she contracted pneumonia which caused her to be somewhat of a sick child. She was also very tiny and could not work on the farm, so her job was to cook in the kitchen with her mom. The family lived in Idaho on a dairy farm until Donna got married. They then started moving around and they moved to Tucson. Arizona, then onto Richfield, Utah, where she met a young man named Ervin Mason. Being only 15, she had no idea he would later become the love of her life. While Ervin was in the Army serving in Alaska her family continued to move around and every time Ervin got leave, he would help them move. During this time, she was continuing her education, being involved in many plays. She did not let being the new girl in the school stop her from fulfilling her love of acting. They eventually moved back to Meridian, Idaho, where she was a cheerleader and on the debate team. She graduated from Meridian High in May of 1953.
By this time, she realized that Ervin Mason was the one she would choose to be her eternal companion and on October 14, 1953, they were married for time and all Eternity in the Manti Temple. Finding the true love of her life was her dream.
They moved to Idaho where their first two children were born: Karrie Kathryn (September 6th, 1954), and Scott Ervin (March 6, 1956). Scott, their precious baby boy, passed away after only living 36 hours and is buried in the Boise Idaho Cemetery. This broke her heart, and she never fully recovered from this loss. Ervin worked alongside her father on the farm until they decided to move to the Salt Lake Valley, working construction jobs. They added two more children to their family: Curt E (May 8, 1958) and their baby Tawnia K. (May 14, 1961, on Mother's Day)
During their time in Bountiful, Utah, they helped set up the emergency shelters throughout the city because of the cold war. She also held many positions in the church including Primary President where she entered floats into the big 24th of July parade in Salt Lake City two years running. Her first was a heaven float and the second was a Disney float. This was her favorite because it included not only the Primary kids but families from the entire neighborhood, bringing everyone together, which she loved.
After their time in Bountiful, they moved to St. George to take care of her parents and where she graduated from Dixie College with a Bachelor's in Psychology. They then relocated to Springville, Utah, where they fell in love with the canyon, eventually buying 4 acres up Hobble Creek Canyon where they lived for 25 years, snowmobiling in and out during the winter and living totally off grid. This by far was the fulfillment of their dream and loved every minute they could spend with each other. After Ervin turned 80, it became too hard to stay on their beautiful mountain and in January 2014, they moved in with their youngest daughter Tawnia and Michael, turning their basement into a beautiful apartment. This is where she resided until her death.
Mom was never happier than when she was putting on a play or doing something creative. She wrote many plays and a pageant that was produced and ran for 2 nights in Illinois April 11th and 12th , 1985 called “Another Testament of Jesus Christ.” It showed how the Book of Mormon and Bible actually complement each other. This was one of her major accomplishments and she was so proud of it. She also authored 2 books with copyrights on both “The Gift of the Barnyard” and “Limpy and the Little White Dove.” She also created a coloring book which she loved to share with all the children she met. By far her greatest accomplishment was her Christ picture which she painted while being legally blind. She was able to bring to life a vision of Jesus Christ which she would share whenever she would feel a prompting when she knew she needed to give someone a copy. This led to making wallet-size copies so she could have them to hand out. This led to them being handed out throughout the world. It gives people hope and shows Jesus loves them.
She loved being a Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother to her Posterity and took great pride and joy in all their accomplishments.
She loved each and every one of them for whom they were individually and would brag about them every chance she had.
She is survived by her daughter Tawnia and Michael (Glidewell) and her daughter-in-law Sylvia Green (Mason)
18 Grandchildren 39 Great-Grandchildren 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren
She was proceeded in death by her (husband) Ervin Mason, (Daughter) Karrie and Jeff (Clark), (Son) Scott Ervin Mason, (Son) Curt E Mason, (Sister) Joyce Mallard (Smith), (Father) Walter Marion Mallard, (Mother) Catherine Agnes Roberts (Mallard), and many more who are waiting to welcome her home.

Written by her Daughter Tawnia K. Mason Glidewell (October 27, 2024)
I would like to thank my sweet loving husband Michael who was so gentle and kind to my mother during her decline with dementia the last few years while battling his own health problems with cancer. You could not have asked for a more perfect and loving son-in-law. He not only showed, in the last years, but through our whole married life he loved and helped my parents from the moment we got married . Thank you, Mike, for following my dad's example of a loving companion, I could not have done it without your support.
Also, a thank you to Pamala for her tender love of my mom helping us 5 days a week without pay but out of love for my mom. Without her support, life would have been a lot tougher.
Katherine loved roses. We are requesting everyone bring at least one red rose. Let’s fill the atmosphere with the pure love the rose represents.
Condolences for the family may be expressed on this page.
