Karen, 62 died May 3, 2008 at her home in Provo, Utah. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was born to Joseph and Ann Dimonde (deceased) in Charleroi, Pennsylvania on November 24, 1945. She moved to Alaska as a young girl. She loved Alaska and was famous for telling stories of growing up in the "boonies". Her grandchildren called her Grandma Alaska.



She married Robert Rios in 1966 and had one daughter, Sylvia Rios Davis. She later divorced Bob and moved back to Alaska and raised her daughter alone. She married Richard Thomas Rowan in 1994. They both shared a love for taking long drives and for seeing the beautiful sights of Alaska. During the long summer days, she enjoyed driving to Portage Glacier and having lunch. She retired from Anchorage Telephone Utilities (ACS). She and Rick moved to Utah in 2002 to be near her family. She had a deep love for her home state Alaska. She loved crafting, holidays, especially Christmas, and spoiling her five grand children. She loved nature and the beauty of the earth. She enjoyed watching the hummingbirds in her back yard and driving up the Hobble Creek Canyon. She is known for loving to laugh.



She is survived by her husband Rick, her daughter Sylvia (Derek) and their five children: Taylor (16), Perry (14), Paige (12), Carson (3) and Will (1); her four brothers: Joe (WA), Babe (CA), Mark (LA) and Miles (LA); and her only sister Bernie (ID). She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ann and her brother Barry.



A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2008 at her ward building 2801 W. 620 N. Provo, Utah.
