Karen Tillie Hatfield Ostler 65, of Springville, passed peacefully from this life at 2:45 am Dec 12, 2007 at Mountain View Hospital, with her 4 daughters by her side. She died from pneumonia and other related illnesses.
Karen was born March 11, 1942 in Springville, Utah, to Cloid Severn & Ardith Ellen Armstrong Hatfield. She attended schools in Springville, graduating in 1960 from Springville High School and attended BYU for 1 year. She worked at Novell as a break room specialist. She thoroughly loved the people she worked with and she hated to quit. She left Novell in 2006 due to her health problems.
She loved her family. She loved holidays, especially Easter and Christmas. She spent hours looking for the perfect gift for every family member. In her free time she enjoyed shopping, collecting scrap book supplies, stamping, and making greeting cards. She was also an avid Utah Jazz fan. Mint chocolate chip ice cream with brownies was her favorite meal. She would eat this at every meal if she could. Karen enjoyed life. Through her struggles, she still enjoyed her ice cream. In her memory, enjoy a big bowl of ice cream with your family this Christmas
She married Elvin Arthur Ostler August 30, 1963 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. To this union was born 4 daughters. Karen and Elvin divorced in 1991. After the divorce, Karen remained an integral part of the Ostler family.
Karen was a lifetime member of the LDS Church and served diligently in several callings in the church auxiliaries, her favorites being Nursery and Sunbeam teacher. She also served as PTA President at Sunset View Elementary school in Provo.
Karen spent her free time spoiling her 5 grandchildren, who will miss her. They are Tyler, Ellee, Allie, Jag, and Aubrie. She is also survived by her 4 daughters and their husbands: Laralynn & Stephen Tefteller of Salt Lake City, Karalee & Brett Mackay of West Jordan, Lisa & Taun Barton and Jan & Justin Tranchell of Springville; her sister, Claudia (Michael) Goodman of Arizona; brothers, Jerry (Sandi) Hatfield and Craig (Betty) Hatfield of Springville. She is also survived by Carol & Phil Fisher and Floyd & Jackie Ostler of Orem; Joan & Michael Averett and Sam Ostler of Springville and numerous nieces and nephews around the country. She was preceded in death by her parents Cloid and Ardith Hatfield, LaVell & Hettie Ostler; LaVon Hatfield and Laural Ostler.
A viewing will be held Friday evening at Wheeler Mortuary from 6 - 8 pm, and Saturday morning 9:30 - 10:30 am at the Hobble Creek West 2nd Ward, 1460 E 900 S, in Springville. The funeral will follow at 11 am. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
