June Whiting Blanchard, 91, of Springville, UT, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 in Sandy, UT. She was born January 9, 1920 in Mapleton, UT to Charles Leonard and Olive Carleton Whiting. She married Donald Alton Blanchard September 22, 1938 in Ogden, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2004.
June loved her childhood home of Mapleton. She was one of ten children and learned the joy of hard work in her father's blacksmith shop and farm. Her love of life through labor was to become her hallmark for her entire ninety-one years. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and applied her exceptional work ethic to many years of service in the Primary and Relief Society programs there. She and Don served honorably together as missionaries for the church after Don's retirement.
June loved nature, birds, poetry and keeping a clean, orderly home. She was amazingly resourceful, compassionate to the unfortunate and meticulous in every endeavor - any job was to be done well or not at all. Above all she loved being a grandmother and loved nothing more than seating children around the kitchen table and cleaning out the 'frig to their delight. June was a woman of unlimited energy, a Biblical "virtuous woman" and a powerful example of the "greatest generation".
She is survived by her children: Donald Rex (Julie) Blanchard; Eloise (Ray) Daybell; Paul Jay (Kim) Blanchard; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Blanchard; 23 grandchildren and many beautiful great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 9 siblings and son, John Charles Blanchard.
The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers and staff at the Sandy Regional Health Center, Legacy Care Center and Reid's Assisted Living Center.
