1919-2013
"I always figured if I lived long enough, something like this would happen to me."
and happen it did... finally passing away on March 20, 2013 at the age of 93.
Gil was born Sept. 11, 1919 in Summerland, B.C. Canada (with a sense of humor and a love for life), the third of four children. His parents were Gilbert V. and Lilian A. White. His early years were spent in Oak Park, 111, where he graduated from High School and later moved to the Washington D.C. area where he attended American University. He served over 4 years during World War II in the Army Air Forces. While he was stationed in Salt Lake City in 1944 he met & soon married his eternal sweetheart, Norma K. Buhrley in Rapid City, So. Dakota. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1945. They enjoyed 56 years together until her passing March 6, 2000.
He worked for 36 years in sales for McKesson Wholesale Drug Co. retiring in 1982. He kept busy with part-time jobs, closing things out in late 2002 at the age of 83 after 13 great years at Stone Drug in Spanish Fork
He was an active member of the L.D.S. Church and served faithfully in many Ward and Stake callings.
He enjoyed family get-togethers, especially when it involved BYU sporting events... ..Goooo Cougars!!!! He was very selfless and an inspiration to all he came in contact with, never hesitating to share whatever he had...whether it be monetary, knowledge, wisdom or time. He loved to share a good story about his "past life", talk "sports", discuss current events... and, he was a great listener as well.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters, Shirley & Barbara, brother, Lin, all of his in-laws and a good portion of his friends.
