Joseph Eli Tippetts

Joseph Eli Brazee Kelsey Andrew Moses Thurston Ferguson Tippetts died September 9, 2010 of natural causes.



He was born November 22, 1918 in Lovell, Wyoming to George Wilbur and Betsy Ferguson Tippetts. Being the youngest of five children he was the last of his generation. He grew up in Spanish Fork and Springville and graduated from Springville High School in 1937. He attended BYU after graduation and at the onset of WWII joined the army and served as a sergeant in the Pacific Theater. After the war he married Marion Witney in the Logan Temple; a marriage that would last 59 years until her death in 2007. Together they have five children: Ruth Packard (Dennis), Lynette Leroy (Bill), Robert Eli (Sharon), Jean Bonnet (Joe), and Gary Witney (Jeanette). Eli is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.



Active in the LDS church he served in many church callings: a full time mission to the Pacific island of Tarawa with Marion, and as a Temple Worker in the Provo, Temple.



Eli graduated from BYU shortly after the war and taught English and Drama at Springville High School for over 30 years. He also owned and operated a cherry orchard in Mapleton and was an avid gardener.



Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 16 at 11 a.m. at the Springville Ward located at 966 West Center Street in Springville. Friends may call Wednesday, September 15 from 6 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville or at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
