John William Tanner

John William Tanner, age 94 of Springville, Utah, passed away Friday December 23, 2011. He was born December 18, 1917 in Kemmer, Wyoming, to George Wilder Tanner and Myrtle Peterson. He married Helen DeSantis on May 16, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah. John spent his early years in Kemmer and moved to Utah in 1942. He helped in the construction of the Geneva Steel Plant in Orem. He worked at Geneva for 36 years, retiring in 1980.



He enjoyed fishing, hunting and he found joy in helping friends and neighbors. He was very creative and could fix or build anything. Along with his wife, Helen, he loved square dancing and playing bridge.



He is survived by his two sons, Paul (Mel) Tanner of Duchesne, Utah and Roy (Joann) Tanner of Kirksville, Missouri; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.



Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 29, 2011 in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. Friends may call at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. prior to the service.
