John Carter Rell Preston, 62, returned peacefully to our Heavenly Father on October 4, 2014 after a valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease. John was loved by many and always found ways to love and serve others. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, son, grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend. His passing has left a hole in many hearts.
He was born on April 23, 1952 in Dragerton, Utah to John Carter Preston and Loretta Anderson. John graduated from Springville High School in 1970 where he met the love of his life, "Jo Jo", JoNan Farrer. They were married on August 1, 1970 and later sealed in the Provo, Utah LDS temple. JoNan was blessed to call him hers for 44 years.
John was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in numerous callings and especially loved working with the youth. He was a true example of faith and love to all who met him.
His passion for hard work led him to the construction industry where he worked for 42 years. He met many of his dearest friends while working at Western Quality Concrete and Geneva Rock Products.
He was an avid outdoorsman and looked for any excuse to spend time with his family in the mountains. He loved to go camping, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed riding horses, snowmobiles, and four-wheelers. He spent many hours golfing with family and friends. Many of our most treasured memories were made at the family cabin in Fairview and camping at the Book Cliffs.
He is survived by his loving wife, JoNan, and their children; Nicole (Dallan) Walker, Mena (Regan) Palfreyman, Tina (James) Nackos, Cristy (Jon) Bird, Cody (Kara) Preston, April (Shaun) Briggs, Cassie (Scott) Ferguson, Cami (Nate) Heywood. He leaves behind his cherished 28 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by his father John Carter Preston and his 4 siblings; Jeff (Diane) Preston, Alan (Machelle) Preston, Mike (Teresa) Preston, and Carol (Richard) Richins. He is preceded in death by his mom, Loretta Anderson, and many others who welcomed him home with open arms.
We offer a sincere thank you to the medical staff, friends and family who cared for him over the past few years.
A memorial fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank in his name.
