John Albert Pratt

d. February 14, 2015

1941~2015

John Albert Pratt passed away unexpectedly at home on February 14, 2015. He was born on August 15, 1941 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. Many colorful experiences filled his youth - some he shared while others remain a mystery. He and his lovely bride of 49 years met hitchhiking while employed at Glacier National Park, Montana. As a young man John served a mission for the LDS Church in the Central British Mission; later he and Barbara served together in the England London Mission.

After graduating from BYU he began his career in the banking industry in Chicago, Illinois. He then moved to Denver, Colorado to launch his own bank marketing consulting firm.

John and Barb have enjoyed their retirement years in Mapleton, Utah. He loved sharing produce from his garden, cheating at cards, woodworking, shining others shoes, the beauty of Utah viewed along various ATV trails and spoiling his grandchildren. He loved entertaining. He always felt that the best part of his home were the people that came through the front door.

John served in the LDS church in various capacities. He has enjoyed his many associations while serving as a bishop and branch president in Suburban West Ward Illinois, Lakewood 3rd Ward Colorado, BYU 104th Ward Utah, Rochford England Branch and Provo Utah MTC. His favorite opportunities were serving with the outstanding young adults of the BYU 104th ward and being a home teacher.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Kay Plewes Pratt; his children Julie (Steven) Walker, JB (Caroline) Pratt, Bonnie (Eric) Bowman, Christopher Pratt, Heather (Jason) Mons and 13 wonderful grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents William M and Nellie Pratt and infant brother Larry.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015, 11 a.m. at the Mapleton Stake Center, 970 North 400 East in Mapleton, UT. A viewing will be held for family and friends prior to the funeral from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. as well as Thursday, February 19 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the same location.
