John Oliver "Jack" Bird passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 79. Born July 29, 1934 to G
uy & Norma Bird. He was born & raised in Springville, Utah and graduated from Springville High.
Jack joined the National Guard after graduating from High School, then worked as a surveyor for the government, and then joined the Springville Police force. Later he left the police force to work for Geneva Steel as a Railroad Engineer and retiring with them after 29 years. For seven years, while working for Geneva Steel, Jack was one of the first to serve as an ambulance volunteer for Springville City. Jack was also a crossing guard for Springville.
Jack married Colleen Frost on June 23, 1955. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on November 16, 1971. Jack was a member of the LDS Church, holding various callings.
Jack is survived by his second wife, Joanne Bowers Bird; son, John (Michelle) Bird; son-in-law, Kirk Roberts; 5 grandchildren & 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Joanne's 4 children; Terry, Ann, Jack & Jill; her 17 grandchildren & 8 great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, Colleen F. Bird; daughter, Debra Roberts; 3 brothers, N. Guy, Robert, & LaRay Bird; and both parents.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014 with a viewing prior to the services from 9:30 - 10:45 at the SpringCreek LDS Building at 860 E. 200 N., Springville. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Rich and his staff at the Huntsman Center for their love and caring, and Dr. Clark and his staff for their loving care.
