Joel William Wilcox

On September 23, 2019, Joel William Wilcox, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He lived 87 full years. Joel was born in Heber City, Utah, May 13, 1932 to William Clyde Wilcox and Mary Sephrona Giles Wilcox. He was the third of four children. Joel married Muriel Earnestine Olive on June 7, 1957 in the Salt Lake City Temple. As a life-long faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, Joel was motivated by the love of his Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ to spend a lifetime of loving service to his family, ward family and neighbors. The highlight of Joel’s church service was serving a proselyting senior mission with his wife in the Halifax Nova Scotia Mission.  The spirit of Jesus Christ shown in his countenance.

After graduating from Provo High School, Joel joined the U.S. Navy to serve in the Korean War. His military service as a dental technician and experience with radiation equipment eventually led to a successful career in the aerospace industry as a Non-destructive Testing Engineer where he was instrumental in the development of a proprietary Computed Tomography Scanning process for detecting micro defects in a solid rocket booster fuselage.

Joel was preceded in death by his son Michael Wilcox; Great-grandson John Mitchell; Sister Marilyn Angus; and Sister Wonda Wilcox, who died at birth. He is survived by his: Wife, Muriel Wilcox; Brother, Dee Wilcox, St. George, Utah; Daughter in-law Julie Wilcox, Provo, Utah; Son Lance (Neal Wagner) Wilcox, Springville, Utah; Son Craig (Lisa) Wilcox, Soldotna, Alaska; Son Daniel (Michelle) Wilcox, Springville, Utah; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held September 30, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Spring Creek 4th Ward Chapel located at 350 North 400 East in Springville.  Friends and family may call Monday at the church one hour prior to the services.  Burial will be in the Heber City Cemetery.
