Joan Ottis Pehrson, 69, of Springville passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 12, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 26, 1942 in Yuba City, California to Joe and Edith Ottis. She married Lloyd Pehrson on June 3, 1965. They were later divorced, but remained lifelong friends.
Joan received her LPN from Utah Valley Technical College, and began working at the BYU Health Center in 1966. She served as the coordinator for the specialty clinics, and later moved to the MTC Clinic, where she oversaw the special needs of the missionaries. She finished her career with BYU at the Health Center assisting students who could not afford the medications they were in need of. Joan had a deep love for her patients, co-workers and her job. She retired from BYU in September 2011, after 45 years of dedicated service.
Joan was a loving and dedicated mother, and grandmother who cherished every moment that she got to spend with her children and grandchildren. Her desire to watch her sweet grandchildren grow up is what kept her going throughout her illness. She was a faithful member of the LDS church and found her greatest joy in giving to others. She loved spending time working out in her yard, cooking (especially for Thanksgiving), buying "prizes" for her grandchildren, and spending time with her family during the holidays.
Joan is survived by two daughters: Marcie (Chris) Belton of Tooele and Lindsay (Aaron) Lyman of Springville; sister, Sharon (Bill) Vonnegut of Dayton, Nevada; two brothers; and seven grandchildren; Ryan, Brooklyn, Max, Emmy, Finleigh, Camden and Maizy.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Huntsman Cancer Institute, who gave our mother and grandmother such loving care these last four years. We would also like to thank Envision Hospice for the kindness and care that was given to her and our family during the last month of her life.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Hobble Creek LDS Stake Center at 495 South Canyon Road in Springville. There will be a viewing held Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville and at the Stake Center on Thursday, 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
