J. Mack Boyack

Joel Mack Boyack, age 83, passed away from complications of multiple myeloma while surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Mack was married over 64 years to his loving wife Marva. They have resided in Springville for most of their entire marriage. Mack and Marva have six children; Steven (Merrilee) Lehi, Sharon, who passed away shortly after her birth, Linda (Glen) Simons and Wendy (Curtis) Simmons Spanish Fork, Chris (Elizabeth) Littleton, CO and Philip (Jenny) Draper.

Mack and Marva together have 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren whom they deeply love and cherish.

Mack was born in Spanish Fork to wonderful parents, Leona Howard Ellis and William Jex Boyack on May 7, 1935. He had many wonderful friends growing up in Spanish Fork and after his family moved to Springville. Mack earned a Varsity letter playing tennis and he acted in several school plays and wrote for the school newspaper.

Mack met and fell in love with Marva Poulsen while attending Springville High School. He was instantly smitten with her. They were married and sealed for all eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS temple on September 7, 1954 by Elder Spencer W. Kimball.

Mack drove truck as a career for most of his life, logging over 4 million miles. Mack was truly a missionary on wheels, driving with over 600 partners with whom he shared conversations about family, politics and religion. Many of these men became lifelong friends. Mack was a pioneer in using media while traveling, collecting over 2400 books and talks on tape. Mack loved to learn and was always engaged in reading and studying. The more he learned the more he wanted to know.

Mack served in many church positions, from Deacon’s Quorum President to Bishop. He loved family history and served family history missions for over 17 years where he taught and helped others learn how to use new digital applications to further their family history work. His family has been greatly blessed by the works that Mack has compiled.

Although we are sad and heartbroken to have our husband, father and grandfather leave us for a period of time, we are comforted by our faith in the restored gospel that promises that families can be reunited and that our bonds of companionship and love never die.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, October 10th from 6 to 8PM at Wheeler mortuary in Springville. Funeral service will be Thursday, October 11th 11AM at the Kolob Stake building 1355 S 400 E in Springville, UT.
