Jim Harrison Bird

Jim Harrison Bird, age 79, passed away on September 28, 2011 at the home of his son, Tim Bird in Chandler, Arizona. He was born on July 31, 1932 in Provo, Utah to J. Lewis and Eileen Harrison Bird.



He graduated from Springville High School and married Marine Stone in May 1950. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1952. They have one daughter and three sons.



He began his career as a cement finisher in Fairbanks, Alaska at the age of 18. He returned to Utah and worked on cement construction around Utah and surrounding states. He worked on the Flaming George Dam in the mid 50's as supervisor over cement work. In the mid 60's he worked on the Guri Dam in Guri Venezuela for several years. He worked as a consultant on a large dam in Paraguay. He returned with his wife and family to Mapleton, Utah where he raised pigs and rabbits with his sons. He later moved to Henderson, Nevada where he and his wife Marine developed a very successful jerky business.



Jim was an avid pool player, bowler, hunter, and fisherman. He was extremely successful in all his pursuits. Jim was a very friendly person and had many friends throughout his life. Everyone was always welcome at his home.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Marine, an infant brother Glen Lewis and his parents. He is survived by his daughter Cindy (Larry) Taylor, Las Vegas, Nevada, Dennis (Donna) Bird, Henderson, Nevada, David (Paulette) Bird, Syracuse, Utah and Tim (Holly) Bird, Chandler, Arizona; 14 Grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; three brothers: Douglas (Naomi) Bird, Eric (Nora) Bird, Mapleton, Utah, Blake (Suanne) Bird, St. George, Utah and three sisters: Barbara (Leon) Lee, Springville, Utah, Brenda (David) Lawlor, Centerville, Utah and Mary Ann (Stanley) Jenkins, Highland.



Viewing will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah. Services will be held Wednesday October 5, 2011 at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Mapleton LDS Church at 1215 North 1000 West Mapleton, Utah. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah.
