Jerrald Cloid Hatfield, 72 of Springville, UT, returned to his Heavenly Father December 19, 2009 at home surrounded by his family, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born July 7, 1937 in Santaquin, UT to Cloid and Ardith Armstrong Hatfield. He married his sweetheart Lena Lavon Allred on Aug. 16, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away in July of 2002. He was blessed to find and marry Sandra Hetzel on January 18, 2003 who made his last years happy.
Jerry attended and graduated from high school and seminary in Springville, UT. He later graduated from Utah Technical College in Auto Body. He served in the Utah Army Reserve. He worked at Geneva Steel for 32 years. He had a love for life and enjoyed farming, spending time in the outdoors camping and hunting, and horse riding. He loved to work and every job he did he gave his all. As a water master for 20 years, Jerry enjoyed his associations with all the farmers and would want to express his love and appreciation for them. He had various callings in the LDS church but most of all he was a dedicated Home Teacher who truly loved the families he served. He was known for his anonymous acts of service. He loved his family and time spent with his children and grandchildren was his greatest joy. He loved life and people.
He is survived by his spouse; 3 sons: Steven (Janine), Neal (Kathy) and Richard (Jennifer); 3 stepchildren: Sheldon (Lynne) Hetzel, Wendy (Jeff) Van Horne and Cindy (John) Stevens; brother, Craig Hatfield; sister, Claudia Goodman; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and a sister, Karen Ostler.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Hobble Creek West Stake Center, 555 S 600 E, Springville, UT. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E 200 S, Springville or Wednesday, one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the 1st Choice Hospice team for their loving care and helping Jerry "enjoy the journey" this past year, especially his "friend" Gina.
