Jean Larsen Pitts

Jean L. Pitts, age 91 of Springville, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Utah on November 19, 1920 to Loren Croft Larsen and Eva Bertha Elizabeth Ericksen. Jean married Homer Pitts March 27, 1948. He preceded her to the Lord on January 20, 1989.



Jean enlisted in the Navy in 1944. On December 2nd, she requested assignment and in February 1945 was assigned to Cedar Falls, Iowa at a Navy training school. While stationed there, she was able to fly a small training plane. She was discharged on April 19, 1946. After her discharge from the Navy, Jean attended BYU and obtained most of her schooling there.



Jean was an avid golfer and was very good at it. She loved to fish, hunt and was also a great shot. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church and played the piano and organ for the church for 13 years.



She has two sons: Gary E. Pitts and Kim H. Pitts, both of whom were adopted. She has seven grandchildren: Michelle Lebedoff, GeAnne Moore, Kevin (Duke) Pitts, Prescott Pitts, Gavin Pitts, Steven Pitts, Stephanie Pitts, and six plus great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mack King Davis. He and Jean were married just 6 days before he was killed as a prisoner of war in friendly fire while being transported in the hull of a Japanese freighter during World War II.



Jean has two brothers: Whitey and Stan Larsen, both deceased. Her sister, Carolyn, now resides in Reno, Nevada.



There will be a viewing held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 in the Spring Creek 7th Ward Chapel at 350 N. 400 E. in Springville. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Bishop Antonio Gervais conducting. Burial will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Salt Lake City after the services.
