Janice Mendenhall Hastings, 92, passed away in Provo, Utah, on August 25, 2024. Born in Mapleton, Utah, October 18, 1931, Janice is the daughter of Aaron Bruce Mendenhall and Senate Jane Johnson. Janice married her college sweetheart, Loyal Dee Hastings, June 18, 1953, in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple. Janice is a graduate of Brigham Young University, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
Prior to Loyal’s passing, Janice and Loyal celebrated 56 years of life together providing service to others. Together they traveled the world during Loyal’s career as a pilot in the United States Air Force. They served together as Missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington DC Temple.
Janice leaves behind a great legacy of faith and compassionate service. She has been an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for 75 years. She and Loyal’s posterity include their eight children; Joel (Danny), Diane (Clayton), Debra (Mitchell), David, Douglas, Deena, Dawna (Skousen), and Deanna (Annie Biorn); 40 Grandchildren and 82 Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at the Mapleton 2nd Ward LDS Chapel; 475 N. 1600 W. (US Hwy 89); Mapleton, Utah. Visitation will precede the service from 10-11:00 am. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS Humanitarian Aid Fund.
