James LaMoyne Roberts 78, passed away peacefully in the midst of family on Monday, August 18, 2014. LaMoyne was born on July 28, 1936 to William John and Lydia Schumann Roberts of Tremonton Utah. He was the firstborn son into a loving, righteous and hardworking family. Seven others children would follow.
He married his sweetheart, Jeanette Harding, on January 23, 1959, in the Logan Utah Temple for time and all eternity. They spent fifty-five wonderful years together.
During the early years of his life with Jeanette, LaMoyne could be found farming, ranching, tearing a diesel engine apart and putting it back together. He was blessed with a great talent to understand the inner workings of machines and loved to modify and repair them. In his later years he found great joy in creating valves and other parts from molten medal for the use in large machines.
He found great joy in working with sweet-smelling hardwood. His ability to create fine furniture from a block of wood was a talent given to him from his youth. He found great closeness with the Creator when doing this work.
LaMoyne graduated from Bear River High School in Garland Utah in 1955. While in high school, he received a national championship award in farm mechanics, leading his Future Farmers of America team to the National Convention.
He worked with his hands all his life until he was unable to do so. He was a meticulous carpenter, building additions to his homes and serving others with his talents. He always said, "If it is not worth doing right the first time, it's not worth doing".
Throughout his life he served in various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including: Mission to the British Isles, district President, branch president, counselor in bishoprics, gospel doctrine teacher, scoutmaster, four stake missions, home teacher, and other ward and stake callings.
He loved the outdoors. One of his favorite places was Yellowstone National Park. He visited the park hundreds of times, both in summer and winter. He loved the wildlife, fishing, and mystique of that country. He mostly enjoyed being with his family, sharing his memories of his youth and making memories for his family.
He was a righteous father and priesthood holder who desired the best for each and every member of his family. His legacy will be felt for future generations. One of his personal accomplishments in which he took great pride was that he was given the blessing to ordain all of his sons to all the offices of the priesthood. To him there was no better thing that he could have done.
He was preceded in death by his father, William John Roberts, mother, Lydia Schumann Roberts, and his sister, Florence Deakin.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Harding Roberts, of Springville, Utah, and children: Lynette (Gordon) Bodily of Springville, Utah, Karen (Dee) Rasmussen of McCammon, Idaho, Douglas (Teri) Roberts of West Jordan, Utah, Brent (Ramona) Roberts of Orem, Utah, Boyd (Molly) Roberts of Springville, Utah, and Mark (Rachel) Roberts of Spanish Fork, Utah, 27 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
