Jae Kelly Baxter

d. January 15, 2015

1957 ~2015

Jae Kelly Baxter passed away January 15, 2015 as a result of a heart attack. Jae was born on September 10, 1957 to Calvin J and Rae Wright Baxter in Provo, Utah.

Jae was raised in Springville, Utah and graduated in 1975 from Springville High School where he was active in athletics and academics. After high school Jae enrolled at Brigham Young University and graduated in 1978 with a degree in Chemistry. He then attended Cornell Medical School and graduated in 1982.

During medical school Jae married Christine Bird on March 6, 1980. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple on September 8, 1989. Jae and Christine's first home was in New York City for medical school. Upon graduation Jae and Chris moved to Sacramento, California where Jae completed his residency at Cal Davis specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Following residency, they moved to Claremore, Oklahoma where Jae fulfilled his 3-year Civil Service commitment that he had incurred to finance medical school. Jae and Chris then relocated to Utah for Jae's first job. They settled back where they began in Springville, Utah, home of family, friends, and a favorite golf course.

Once in Utah County, Jae established a private OB/GYN practice. Several years ago, Jae joined the staff at Intermountain Healthcare where he practiced until his death. During his years in practice, Jae delivered over 7,000 babies. Jae enjoyed and was grateful for the doctors, nurses and staff that he practiced with over the years.

Jae was most proud of his three daughters, Katie, Amy, and Kellie. He was a loving and engaged father who stressed the importance of education and self-reliance. His role as dad included coaching the girls in sports, chauffeuring teenage girl shopping trips, and bringing home late night treats. He was the consummate concierge for the girls on family trips. Jae knew the location of the best restaurants in every town in which he lived or visited.

Jae's close friends and family all agree that "the doc" was one of a kind. He was known for his classic sayings, generosity, fun-filled Primary classes, never ending quest to find bargains, love of golf, work ethic, vacation planning skills, sense of humor, marathon World of Warcraft sessions, and consistent good nature--even if he was playing bad golf. Jae was always open, genuine, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. "The doc" can never be replaced and will be greatly missed.

Jae is survived by his wife, Christine; daughters Katie (Jesse) Smith, Amy (Clint) Anderson, and Kellie (Garret) Roundy; grandchildren Elle Anderson and Calvin Roundy; mother Rae Baxter; and siblings Douglas Baxter and Holly (Glen) Jolley. Jae was preceded in death by his father Calvin J Baxter, and his father and mother-in-law Dan and LaDean Bird.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the Springville Stake Center at 245 S. 600 E. (Kolob Circle) in Springville. There will be a viewing held Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville and also Monday at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Historic Springville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Jae would want you to take your family out to dinner.
