Ila Garn Thomson

June 6, 1922 — July 2, 2012

Our mother and grandmother, Ila Garn Thomson, 90, of Meridian, returned to her Heavenly Father on July 2, 2012. She passed away at Canterbury Assisted Living in Springville, Utah.

Ila was born June 6, 1922 in Milo, Idaho, to George Elmer and Eliza Bacon Garn, the fifth of seven children. Mother grew up in the Boise Valley, and was part of a loving, hard-working family. She attended Lower Fairview, McKinley and Boise High Schools. She and her sisters had beautiful voices and often sang together at community events and on the radio. Her family was instrumental in establishing the first ward of the LDS Church in Meridian. She married William Durrell Thomson on November 29, 1943, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Ila had exceptional homemaking skills, sewing most of the family clothing and canning numerous jars of produce from her garden. Her home was surrounded by a variety of beautiful flowers. She loved the mountains of Idaho and enjoyed camping and picking huckleberries with her family. She spent her life in service of her family and friends. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She especially enjoyed working in the Boise LDS Temple.

Survivors include three sons, William Jay (Janet) of Mountain Green, Utah, Robert Craig (Stacie) of Boise, and Kenneth Eldon (Debra) of Meridian; a daughter, Jolynne Flake (Forrest) of Springville, Utah; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a sister, Marva Stricklin, of Boise.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Cherry Lane LDS Chapel, 1615 W. 2nd St., Meridian. Bishop Kirby D. Keller of the Meridian 1st Ward will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary, Springville, Utah. Friends and family members may attend a viewing Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services.

The Thomson family would like to express appreciation to all who have cared for Ila, particularly those associated with Canterbury Assisted Living, and concerned loved ones. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed.
