Howard Roland Haymond

Howard Roland Haymond, 92, passed away on, Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 in Springville, UT. He was born March 15, 1917 in Mapleton, UT to Solon Earl and Mary Emma Marchbanks Haymond and was the youngest of 7 children. He grew up in Mapleton and Springville. He was loved by everyone.



Howard met Norma Sessions in Clearfield, UT while working road construction. They were married Dec. 17, 1940. Their marriage was later solemnized on June 6, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with 4 children.



Howard worked for 5 years at the Ogden Depot. They moved back to Springville with their young family and he worked at Geneva Steel, retiring from there after 35 years. He spent many summers working for Whiting and Haymond Construction Co.



He had a great love for the outdoors; especially when surrounded by family members. He was an avid BYU fan of all BYU sports. He was a kind man with a fun sense of humor. He was a rare breed in that he was always slow to anger. Very patient. Always forgiving.



Howard was an active member of the LDS Church and an Eagle Scout. He served many years as a Scoutmaster, YM President and High Priest Group Leader.



Howard is survived by 3 children: Robert (Phyllis); Carl (Arlene); Linda (Robert) Bailie, and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Davis Haymond. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; half sister and brothers: Beverly Christian, L. W. "Red" Haymond, and Dean Haymond; and step-sister, Marie Kari. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Norma; son, Roger; parents and siblings.



Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 55 North Main, Springville, UT. Friends may call on Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E 200 S, Springville or Monday 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Springville City Cemetery.
