Hilda Horrocks Houtz lived life to the fullest. She is a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Hilda was born on May 23, 1933, in Springville, Utah to LeRoy DeMont Horrocks and Ida Orthella Durrant. She was the first of five children. She grew up in a loving home where religion was a regular part of her life. She married Keith H. Houtz on August 23, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple. Hilda passed away in her home on July 22, 2023, in Springville. She was 90 years old.
Hilda went to LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. She has worked at LDS Church Printing Press, seamstress, Bank of Spanish Fork bookkeeper, and LDS Custodian. Hilda and Keith built their home in Springville, before moving there. Hilda loved to read, do a garden to share with others, and yardwork especially with flowers. She love to attend the temple. She enjoyed going on vacations with her extended family. She loved being a grandmother. Hilda loved the great grandchildren. Being a grandmother was an important role in her life. She enjoyed musical plays and being in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She would start her day early with a goal in mind. She said your word is your bond, and to be trusted is better and to be loved.
Hilda has had many Church callings teaching in Primary, Sunday School, Young Women, ward librarian, served in different positions in the Relief Society. She had many positions in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She loved the Lord and being at church. Hilda will be missed. But will see her again, she is having a wonderful reunion with loved ones.
Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Keith H. Houtz: brothers, DeMont Horrocks, Howard Horrocks, sister Devona Warner: grandsons Thomas Bunker and William Houtz. She is survived by her sister Orthella Halladay (John, Murray, UT): children, LeRoy Houtz (Springvile, UT), Alan Houtz (Springville, UT), Carolyn Bunker (James, American Fork, UT), Diane Blake (Glen, Hinckley, UT), DeWayne Houtz (Jennifer, Springville, UT): eighteen grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 6-8 pm at Wheeler Mortuary Mapleton, 82 West 400 North in Mapleton. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 29th at 11:00 am at the LDS Chapel located at 495 South Canyon Road, in Springville with a viewing held that morning from 9:30-10:30 am at the church prior to the services. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
