Hilda Leomar Fowers, 81, of Springville, Utah (formerly Pleasant Grove, Utah) passed away peacefully Thursday, June 17th, 2021. She was born on September 3rd, 1939 in Three Rivers, Live Oak, Texas to Juan Bautista Lopez and Eloisa Velasquez. She married George William Fowers on September 2nd, 1960 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Hilda grew up in Texas, but her dad’s business of buying fields of vegetables and selling them at market had her travelling throughout the central and eastern states. Her family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when she was in her teens which led her to meet a missionary from Driggs, Idaho. After high school graduation in Texas, this missionary from Driggs, Idaho convinced Hilda to attend Ricks College in Rexburg. With humble belongings, and the first time ever away from her parents, Hilda travelled to Rexburg to attend Nursing School. This was a culture shock to be away from home and to see snow for the first time. Two months later, the missionary returned home to Driggs. Three years later, after graduating from Nursing School, she married him in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Hilda and George moved to Provo, Utah. Hilda was passionate about caring for others. She worked as a med-surge nurse in Idaho Falls, Salt Lake, Cedar City and Provo. While in Salt Lake, she worked with a surgeon named Dr. Russell M. Nelson. She treasured his wisdom in treating his patients. In 1963, Hilda started working at Utah State Hospital until she retired in 2002. She was compassionate about working in the mental health field.

Hilda was a covenant-keeping daughter of the Lord. Her faith was unwavering. She spent endless hours indexing and took many religious Institute classes at UVU. She held many different callings within the church, but her favorite calling was serving as an Ordinance Worker in the temple. She served in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple for 20 years and in the Provo City Center temple for 3 years.

Hilda’s greatest calling was to be a mom, a grandma and a great-grandma. She loved her kids and they loved her. She was an example of Christlike love and had the gift of listening. She was the rock of her family and always had the wisdom and knowledge to share with those in difficult times. She loved to travel, enjoyed amusement parks, loved to garden and read, and was even known to have a family water fight (with buckets and hoses) throughout the house. She never wavered on the many, many adventures George took her on and the unlimited items he collected throughout their life together. She was an excellent cook and established traditions around Christmas, Easter, Birthdays and Sundays. She loved to dance, sing and always had music playing in the house. Anyone that knew her, knew her favorite color was green.

She is survived by one brother Juan (Debra) Lopez and her four children: Chris (Cal) Metcalf, Springville Utah; Roxanna (Heather) Latimer, Herriman, Utah; Katherine Duvall, Pleasant Grove, Utah; Scott (LeAnn) Fowers, Daybreak, Utah; 10 grandchildren: Amanda (Kalli), Ryan (Sarah), Samantha (David), McKell (Nick), Brooke, Shelby, Gavyn, Peyton, Quinn and Navy; 7 great-grandchildren: Easton, Clo, Greyson, Winston, Colton, Oaklynn and Marlo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother Matias (Nina) Quintanilla and one daughter Eloisa Wanona.
