Herbert Kershaw Miner

Herbert Kershaw Miner, 93, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2010 surrounded by his family. Herb was born April 16, 1916 in Springville, Utah to Thorn Chase and Selina Kershaw Miner.



The family moved to Pennsylvania when he was a young boy and Herb had many adventures there working on a large estate with his father. It was in Pennsylvania where his met his future bride Thelma Smith and they were married in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 25, 1939.



In 1945 Herb and Thelma moved to Springville, where he owned Miner's Meats, Valley Packing and South Main Market. He later went to work at the Utah State Prison as Director of Agriculture until retirement.



In 1957 Herb started building the first of the four homes the family would occupy in Mapleton. Herb was a member of the Mapleton Volunteer Fire Department, Elks, Moose, Good Sam, and the Maple Leaf Riding Club where he made many cherished friendships.



Herb was preceded in death by his loving wife Thelma, son Russell, parents, brother Jeff, and sisters Gladys, Mary and Gwendolyn.



He is survived by his children; Herb Jr., Dorothy (Rob) Franz, Jane, Steve (Jeana), his sisters Evelyn Ekins and Nancy (Don) Herb. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.



Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville. There will be a viewing held Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
