Helen (Clegg) Miner

Helen Clegg Miner passed away peacefully at her home Sunday evening June 3, 2018. She was born to John Wallace and Mary Ellen Wadley Clegg June 17, 1924. Her birthplace was in the home of her grandparents Daniel and Rozilla Jane Wadley on what is now known as Wadley Farms in Lindon, Utah. She lived in Soldier Summit, Utah until the age of 6 when her family moved to Springville. She attended Springville schools and graduated from Springville High School in 1942. While there, she met her future husband, Richard Keith Miner. They were married in the Manti Temple July 5, 1944 while he was on furlough before being shipped overseas. After the war, they moved to Portland, Oregon where Richard attended dental school and then practiced dentistry. They lived there for approximately 10 years before moving back home to Springville.

Helen had a beautiful soprano voice and was a talented piano player. Her home was always filled with music. She loved being a homemaker, with all its baking, canning, and cleaning.  She made sure her children knew how to fold a fitted sheet and hospital corners on the beds were a must! She often quipped that laundry must be her hobby because she was always washing.   She could be found each morning working over the latest crossword puzzle in the newspaper.

Helen was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and worked in all the auxiliaries. She was an ordinance worker at the Provo Temple for more than 15 years. She loved her city and knew its history better than most anyone. She helped with civic organizations, including accommodating folk dancers from around the world. She loved hosting dinners for family, friends, and countless BYU home evening groups. Her home was open to all. As her sister once remarked, “Helen’s house is the true crossroads of the west.”

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, brothers, W. Eugene, LaVere, Howard (Inez), and Don Clegg. She is survived by a sister, Marilyn C. Hyer (Howard), and two sisters-in-law, Sofia Clegg and Sylvia Clegg. Her six children also survive her, Richard (Rhea), Alan (Barbara), Jane, Mary Cherrington (Tom), Ann Makin (David), and Gary (Sharlene) Miner, 25 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held Sunday June 10th at Wheeler Mortuary 211 E 200 S in Springville, from 6:30 to 8:30. Services will be Monday morning at the Kolob 8th Ward chapel 840 S 400 E at 11:00 AM. Viewing will be at the church before services from 9:30 – 10:30. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
