Harvey Willis Hamann

Harvey W. Hamann passed away Sunday, May 24th at the Veterans Care Center in Payson, Utah.  The Cause was due to age and kidney failure.  He was 92 and 10 months.
He was born July 30, 1922 in Ida County, Iowa to Carl Thomas and Rose Iren Peterson Hamann.  He was the oldest of seven children: Melroy (deceased); Dorris (deceased); Thomas of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Bonnie (deceased); Carl (deceased); and Goldie of Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Harvey married Charlen Duda, they had two children: Harvey (Sherrie) Hamann Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Debra (deceased).  They were divorced and he married Leola Beardall Frandsen Hazel on November 3, 1973.  He then got seven step-children: Evelyn (Dutch) Walters of Pleasant Grove; Patricia (Allan) Harmer of Mapleton; Mary Diamond and Clara Rawlings of Springville; Robert (Sylvia) Hazel of Bakersfield, California; Donetta (Clyde) Yates of Delta, Utah and Merrill (Carrie) Hazel of Sandy, Utah; and three adopted children: Bob and Gale Stringham of Provo, and Jay Butterfield of Springville.
Harvey was a World War II veteran and stormed the beaches of Normandy and Omaha.  He was a motorcycle mechanic for the Army while in the service of his country.  After that he worked in the meat packing business for 17 years.  After moving to Utah, he worked for his brother, Tom in construction.
Harvey grew an amazing garden at what he called the Harmer Farm.  After his wife died, he continued to grow and can or freeze everything he grew.  He gave produce to all his family and friends.
Harvey was an AA member for 44 years and sponsored many members.  He loved collecting old coins, especially pennies.  He went on penny runs with Dick Hunsaker until his death.
Harvey leaves behind 37 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren with two on the way.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Leola who passed away May 6, 2008.  Also preceding him in death are five great-grandchildren: Rhiannon Garner, Andrew Marshall, Tracy Walters, Loughlin Garner and Andrew Rawlings; and a grandson, Casey Yates.
Services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah with a viewing at 10:30 a.m. and services at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery following the services.
