1940 ~ 2012

Harold R. Wing, loving father, entrepreneur, mentor and humanitarian, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on Monday, August 6, 2012. He was born in Springville, Utah, March 5, 1940. Hal, as he preferred to be called, led a life dedicated to hard work and service to his family, business, nation, community and church. Hal and his wife Brigitte Mayer Wing raised seven children.

As a young couple with four young children (Art, Doug, Christina, and Heidi), Hal and Brigitte adopted his deceased brother's three children. Always a great example and teacher of a strong work ethic, Hal taught his children to be honest and to respect all people.

Hal held numerous positions in, and with his wife, served multiple missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With an unwavering belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ, Hal lived his life upholding its standards and principles.

As Founder and Chairman of the Board of Wing Enterprises, makers of the Little Giant Ladder Systems, Hal genuinely loved each and every one of his employees and they loved him in return. Hal also served in both Ronald Reagan's and George H.W. Bush's administrations as a representative at several national conferences on small business. He was elected Mayor of Springville, Utah, and served on the panel of the Mountainland Association of Government Regional Review Committee. Hal was named the National Republican Party Committee's Businessman of the Year in 2003 and again in 2006. He received the 2006 National Entrepreneur of the Year award from Ernest & Young and the Business of the Year award from the Utah County Commission for his company's contributions to the Utah economy.

In October 2010, Hal became only the fourth person inducted into the Utah Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame. Hal served on the local Wells Fargo board of directors and regularly spoke at university and education institutions. In May 2011, Hal was awarded an honorary doctorate of business by Utah Valley University.

Hal always looked for people in need and tried to ease their pain. He lived his life with the belief where much is given much is expected. In addition to providing countless acts of anonymous service, Hal supported various charitable organizations including the LDS Church and multiple educational establishments and scholarship funds. He had a special place in his heart for the American Indian Services and Utah Highway Patrol's Honoring Heroes Foundation.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11 at 11:00 am at the LDS Spring Creek South Stake Center in Springville, Utah (350 North 400 East). A viewing will be held Friday, August 10 from 5:00 - 9:00 pm at the Wheeler Mortuary in Springville (211 East 200 South). There will be no public viewing held on the day of services. The Wing Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UHP's Honoring Heroes Foundation at www.utahfastpass.org.
