Grant L Clement, of Springville, passed away February 28, 2012, his 92nd birthday. Born Feb 28, 1920 in Duchesne, Utah to Darius Alva Clement and Araminta Peterson Clement. He married Val Stewart October 7, 1940 in the Manti Temple.
Survived by brother Donald (Sally) Clement, sisters Leah Larsen & Nola Barker, 3 adopted children: James, Carol and Laura; 9 foster children and Antonio Merino who adopted them. Preceded in death by wife, Val Stewart Clement; son, Barry Grant Clement, his parents, sister Nelda Wilson and brother Lloyd Clement (Margaret).
In early married life Grant was a photographer. Later he was an electrician and worked at Fairview, UT, electrical plant; Utah Power & Light; US Steel -Ironton. For 25 years he worked at BYU in the Physical Plant, Electrical Dept. where he was supervisor for 15 years until retiring in 1983.
Their son, Barry, was handicapped by an accident at age 18. Grant and Val devotedly cared for him until he passed away at age 56. Active members of the LDS Church they served in many callings. When Grant was 83, they served a Family History mission in Alabama. His photography experience proved useful running the "ancient" cameras he was familiar with. Their mission experience was a great joy to them. Grant & Val served faithfully, microfilming 864,000 records in 18 months in spite of Grant becoming blind during that time.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Transportation Corp in 1944-1945.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 7th, 2012 at 11:00 AM. with viewing from 9:45 to 10:45AM. in the Springville Stake Center, 245 South 600 East, Springville, UT. Graveside service and interment in the Fairview, UT cemetery at 2:00PM.
