Grace Florence Stone Sears

d. December 28, 2013

1925~2013

Grace Florence Stone Sears, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep Dec 28, 2013, in Spanish Fork, UT, following many years of debilitating illness. She was born in Ogden, Utah, on Dec. 3, 1925, the third child of Jay Gould and Florence Priscilla Middleton Stone. Surrounded by wonderful examples, she was reared in a tightly knit and loving circle of family and friends. A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon), she felt especially honored to serve as a missionary in Northern California in 1946-47. Grace loved her family, serving others, teaching and learning, and filled her life with these pursuits. She also loved music, antiques, reading and growing things. One of the joys of her early life was working as a girls' camp counselor at Camp Lamondi. Grace attended Weber College and then graduated from Brigham Young University. She taught first and second grades in Maryland and adult literacy in both North Carolina and Utah, as well as many classes over the years in church callings.

Grace was sealed for time and all eternity to Roger Wilson Reynolds Sears on Dec. 15, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple by Pres. George Albert Smith. Her highest priority was being a devoted wife and mother. Together, Grace and Roger left a legacy of love and service to others: raising their family and helping to build up the Church, along with Roger's dental practice, in Maryland and later on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. After her children were raised, Grace enjoyed working in the Washington and Provo Temples and pursued a Master's degree in Special Education. Throughout her life, she brightened the world and lifted those around her with her most important gift, her amazing smile.

Grace is survived by Roger W. R. Sears, DDS, Moyock, NC; children: Rodger Sears, DDS (Lorna), Glendale, AZ; Jackye Reynolds (Elizabeth), Raleigh, NC; Sheryl "Shari" Dodson ("Rusty"), Mapleton, UT; and Melissa Moore (Brad), Kill Devil Hills, NC; 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, who brought her much joy, and dear cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews. She is joyfully reuniting with her parents, siblings Lowell M. Stone (Doris) and Opal E. Mills (Seaman); son Gordon Frank Sears; and countless other greatly missed relatives and friends. Her family expresses their gratitude for all the tender and patient attention given to Grace by so many caregivers over the past twelve years. They were truly Heaven-sent, and she felt loved.

Funeral services will be Jan. 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the historic Mapleton White Church, 31 W. Maple St., Mapleton, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah.
