Gordon Brian Hartley

Gordon Brian Hartley passed away September 22, 2009 in Provo, UT. He was born February 29, 1932 in Preston, England. He was the eldest son of Clifford and Mary Wilkinson Hartley. He had 9 sisters and 3 brothers. His family immigrated to Utah in 1949.



Gordon Proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War and while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany received his US citizenship.



He married Cecilia Garcia in 1955 and they had 3 children. They were later divorced.



He married his sweetheart and eternal companion Gwen Reid in 1969 in the St. George temple, and became the stepfather to her 7 children.



Gordon had various jobs in his life including shoe salesman, mailman and finally upholsterer. He retired from BYU. After retiring he and Gwen moved to Hurricane, UT.



Gordon truly loved the gospel and served in many LDS church callings including bishoprics and branch presidency. He and Gwen served two missions in England.



He loved to sing, dance, travel, camp, and tease his grandchildren and great grandchildren.



He is survived by his children and stepchildren Mary Sproles, Dale Hartley, Margaret (Terrence) Gilmore, Ron (Bernie) Jones, Roger (Diane) Jones, Mark (Illene) Jones, Karen (Marvin) Kovatch, Kent Jones, and Floyd (Tracey) Jones. His brothers and sisters Joan Lund, Marion Quilter, Betty Homer, Doris (Jerry) Malm, Melvin (Joan) Hartley, Muriel (Lawrence) Powers, Michael (Pamela) Hartley, Philip (Ann) Hartley, Ruth (Mike) Robins, Dorothy (Richard) Dobson, Carolyn (Jay) McDonald, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.



He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Gwen, stepson Alan Jones, sister Catherine Mabey, brothers-in-law Rex Mabey, Arnold Lund, Fred Quilter, Herald Homer, and two nephews.



Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 275 South 1400 East in Spanish Fork. There will be a viewing held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville and Saturday at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
