Gloria Palfreyman Murdock

April 1, 1928 — August 1, 2011

A valiant spirit was called home on Monday August 1, 2011. Gloria Palfreyman Murdock passed away at UVRMC surrounded by her loving husband and children.

Gloria was born to goodly parents, Bert Floyd and Loeen Beardall Palfreyman, on April 1, 1928 in Springville UT. She was raised on the family farm with one brother and two sisters. She had many fond memories of her childhood. She graduated from Springville High School in 1946, then attended the University of Utah in the School of Nursing. While there she met the love of her life and best friend Edward T. Murdock. They were married on March 17, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. They settled in Springville where they lived in many beautiful homes that Ed had built and raised their family of four children.

During the early years of their marriage, Gloria worked at Dr. Glen B. Orton's office. She then had the privilege of being a homemaker. She volunteered as an election judge for many years.

Gloria was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints all of her life. She served in many positions, including Relief Society President. She loved the Savior with all of her heart.

Gloria had many friends. She belonged to the LaJolli Femme Club where she had great times with her friends. She and Ed had fun with friends at a monthly dinner club. Gloria loved skiing and especially golf. She served for many years on the Women's Hobble Creek Golf Association. She had the fun experience of golfing on many golf courses around the world as she and Ed traveled.

Sixteen years ago she was involved in a terrible automobile accident that forever changed her life. Her injuries were so severe that it was a miracle she was able to walk. She greatly suffered these last years and yet has endured faithfully until the end. We are grateful for those additional years where she enjoyed watching 23 great-grandchildren be born. The last her namesake, Gloria Wren Newton being born two weeks ago. Gloria said that her greatest legacy was her posterity. She loved to have her family around her.

Gloria is survived by her faithful and loving husband, Edward T. Murdock, her four children; Steven (Janine) Murdock, Nancy (Rick) Newton of Springville, Patricia (Mike) Spencer of Mapleton, and Richard (Kathy) Murdock of West Haven UT. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings; Kent (Janet) Palfreyman, Anita Miller, and Collette (Glade) Binks all of Springville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Loeen Palfreyman, sister-in-law Anna Marie Palfreyman, and brother-in-law, William Miller.

A viewing will be held Thursday August 4, 2011 at Wheeler Mortuary 211 East 200 South Springville UT from 6-8 PM and also at the church Friday morning from 10:00-10:45 AM. Funeral services will be held at the LDS chapel in Kolob Circle (245 South 600 East) Springville UT on Friday August 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM.
