Glenna O. Oldroyd, 77, of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2007, surrounded by loved ones; from causes incident to age.
Glenna was born September 26th, 1930 in Provo, Utah to Glendon and Lois C. Ostler (Child). She attended Elementary School through Junior High in Springville. She graduated from Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. After graduation she attended Stevens Henegar School of Business in Salt Lake City.
Glenna married Edgel Oldroyd and together they had three children; Michael Neil, Paula Kathryn, and Karen. They were later divorced.
Glenna worked for the State of Utah in many capacities including Reimbursement Officer for the State Hospital and retired after twenty five years of service.
After retirement, Glenna enjoyed having time to do the things she loved most. She was a fantastic cook; being famous for her "Christmas Soup" creation. She loved music and played the piano beautifully; strictly by ear. She was a voracious reader and loved attending book club, comprised mainly by women from the Springville Presbyterian Church; where she was a life-long member.
Glenna was a founding member of the Utah County HIV/AIDS support group and was passionate about preventing this disease. Glenna, along with her daughter Karen, were
two of the first Utah County residents to certify as Red Cross HIV/AIDS educators.
Glenna loved to travel; especially to the East Coast and she often visited her son Michael in New Hampshire. Together they took many "East Coast" adventures.
Her greatest joy came when her daughter Paula married and she at long last became a Grandma. She loved Hannah and Jake. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Glenna is survived by her daughters; Paula Empey of Springville and Karen Oldroyd of West Jordan; her beloved grandchildren Hannah Caitlyn and Jake Michael Empey of Springville, her brother Neil Child (Regina) of Springville; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her son Michael; her beloved sister Paula Jones, and brother-in-law William Claire Jones.
Memorial Services are Monday December 10th, 2007 at Wheeler Mortuary in Springville Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:00 am. Memorial Services will begin at 11:00 am. Her family thanks the caregivers at East Lake Care Center for their love and care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Odyssey House of Utah or The Utah AIDS Foundation, both in Salt Lake, in her name.
