Glenna Kennedy Bird died on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on September 26, 1928, in Springville, Utah, to Glenn Donloe Kennedy and Emma Bryan Kennedy. Her siblings, all deceased, are Don, Keith (Bud), Gail and Edna.
Glenna is a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. No one loves her family more or is more devoted to them than was she.
She spent her youth in Springville, Salina and Mt. Pleasant, Utah. Her father was a druggist, and she remembered with great love the time she spent with him in Salina and Mt. Pleasant. She was a happy child whose beautiful blonde hair and winning smile lit up the room wherever she happened to be.
Glenna graduated from Springville High School where she was active in Booster Club activities with her best friend Phyllis. Shortly after graduation, she married the love of her life, Roy H. Bird, also from Springville. Their 68th Wedding Anniversary will be celebrated on January 18, 2015.
She devoted her life to her husband and to her family. She is the epitome of selfless dedication to those around her. An exceptional cook and home maker who was born with a gigantic green thumb, her home and yard were always places of order, beauty and the smell of something delicious cooking on the stove or just being removed from the oven.
Glenna loved to travel. She and Roy spent many days and nights traveling around the United States in their camper after Roy retired. When her oldest son Roy married in Romania, she was there to participate in that event.
She loved to knit and do handwork. She worked part time at the Knit Shop in Springville for several years. She made exceptional sweaters for her family and won ribbons at the Utah State Fair. It was her practice to make huge knit Christmas socks to hold Santa's treasures for family members, and for many years each member of the family, large or small, was presented a pair of custom-made house slippers at Christmas.
Glenna and Roy are the parents of three children: Roy K. (deceased), Glenn (Springville) and Jane (Salt Lake City). There are 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren in the family.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2015, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Wheeler's Mortuary in Springville (211 E. 200 S.). The funeral services will be held at the same location on Monday, January 5, at 11:00 am. Glenna will be interred in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery following the funeral services.
