Glenn Dean Sacks, one of the great generation of World War II veterans, died on September 12, 2009, at the age of 88, at American Fork Hospital, American Fork, UT. Glenn was born December, 3 1920 in Oak Mills, Kansas, to Henry Dean Sacks and Ada (Hundley) Sacks. He attended school in Atchison, Kansas, graduating from Atchison High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served six years in the Pacific aboard the USS Waters and the USS Hector, respectively. After the war, he returned to Atchison, where he married Margaret Elizabeth Keller in June 1947. They had three children, John, Janet, and Donald.
In 1959, Glenn moved his family to Farmington, NM. He worked for several companies in electrical repair, but it was at the US Postal Service, where he served as a letter carrier, that he remained until his retirement in 1984. In 2007, Glenn moved from Farmington to Pleasant Grove, UT and in 2008 to Lehi, UT.
Glenn was a man who grew up in hard times, lived through a World War, regarded life as a gift to be lived fully each day, and loved his family and friends. He was the type of man who could talk easily to friends or strangers, and leave them smiling, feeling glad for his company. He trusted in the good in people, enjoyed where he was and who he was with, and made the world a better place by his love for life and his determined spirit. He was fond of fishing, the ocean, and all things relevant to astronomy.
Preceding Glenn in death were his first wife, Margaret, in 1968 and second wife, Nell, in 2004. He is survived by his brother, Edwin Sacks, FL and his sister, Marlene Bracke, ID; his children, John Sacks, Lehi, UT; Janet (Sacks) McAndrews, Rohnert Park, CA; and Don Sacks, Chico, CA. In addition he is also survived by eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend graveside services for Glenn, which will be held Friday, September 18, 12 noon at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 E Main St, Farmington, NM. At his request, there will be no funeral service.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Huntsman Cancer Clinic for extending Glenn's life with expertise and kindness, Gentiva Horizon Home Health for their assistance in improving his life the last two years and Intermountain Healthcare Hospice Services for administering the difficult task of providing him a gentle and respectful death. We are all very grateful for your caringness and professionalism.
Glenn weathered many storms in his life and watched many loved ones pass before him. But, for our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, the last great storm is now over. May you sail peacefully, with only fair winds and following sea.
