Glenn Johns, age 96 of Springville, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2009. Glenn was born May 6, 1912 in Marion, Illinois, the youngest of eleven children, to Thomas "Buddy" Jefferson Johns and Ettie Johns.
Glenn grew up on the family farm, leaving home at an early age to move to Colorado where he had a brother. He then moved to Arizona where he spent the next seven years, coming back to Colorado and working on the building of the Carson Hospital for the war department. Later, he went to work for Union Pacific Railroad as a locomotive fireman for 11 years. Leaving there, he came to Utah where he met and married his wife, Jennie Dolinar. Glenn and Jennie moved to Springville, where Glenn worked for US Steel until retirement.
Glenn loved to fly fish and to go fishing at Strawberry Reservoir. He also loved to play pool at the Senior Citizens Center.
He is survived by one daughter, Marian (Harold) Phoenix; three grandchildren: Don (Stacy) Elton, Lori Ivie, and Christie Robinson; 6 great-grandchildren: Melissa, Brooke, Kailey, Justin, Nicole and Allie. He was preceded in death by 1 granddaughter, Sheila Phoenix and 1 son-in-law, Ted Ivie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
