Glen B. Coats, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2016, after many years of battling heart disease. He was born on February 12, 1936, in Murray, Utah, to James H. Coats and Edith Breeze Coats, and grew up in Granger, Utah. He married his lifetime sweetheart, Dona Lee Parr Coats, on September 26, 1958, in the Salt Lake City Temple. He is survived by his wife, Dona, and his children Glenda Cotter, Doug (Jill) Coats, Cindy (Stephen) Moffitt, Shelly (Frank) Lusk, Dale (Sue) Coats, sixteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and three siblings Norma (John) Bawden, Jeanee (Dee) Rupp, and Bob (Ruth) Coats.
Glen served an LDS mission to the Eastern States Mission. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in business education, an MPA (Master of Public Administration), and he was a CPA. He taught business education classes at Murray High School, worked at Hercules Powder Company, at BYU and Ricks College Bookstores, the latter as the general manager, as an LDS seminary teacher at Springville Jr. High, and he retired from the LDS Church Educational System.
Glen’s passion was for his family, his concern and love for them were paramount. He and Dona were a great team, finding joy in working together to help others, doing ward missionary work, and taking care of each other. Glen loved his kids and grandkids and often took them camping or four-wheeling. He was an avid outdoorsman, horseman, outdoor photographer and gardener and in the summer he would most often be found caring for his yard. He was a careful and thorough student of LDS scriptures and an active member of the church all of his life. Glen was warm hearted and generous, had a ready laugh and humor, and was loved by all who knew him.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful cardiac teams at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, who extended tender and thoughtful care. He always knew he was in good hands.
