Floyd Williams "Brigg" Stewart, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather graduated from this life Saturday January 3, 2015 quietly at home, surrounded by family and in the care of his loving wife Joanne Morse Stewart.
Floyd was born March 16, 1922 in Spanish Fork Utah, the son of Bertha Williams and Floyd LaVar Stewart. His siblings were Alan, Dorothy, Delores, Jay, Jean, Ruth, Howard, Juanita, Curtis, Christine, and Jimmy.
Floyd married his sweetheart, LaRae Thorpe, on March 28, 1944 while on leave from the US Army, which he joined at the beginning of WWII. They were the parents of four children, Patricia (Douglas) Miller of Mapleton, UT; David Floyd (Julie) Stewart of Mapleton, UT; Ronald Craig (JoAnn) Stewart of Coto de Caza, CA; Carolyn (Dr. Philip) Dixon of New Philadelphia, OH.
Floyd married his second sweetheart Joanne Morse on July 7, 2009. And instantly became the beloved stepfather of her children, Frank and Debbie Morse of Springville, UT; Eric Morse of Orem, UT; Cathy and Timothy Cantara of Lee, NH; Timothy and Cheryl Morse of Fulton, NY; Tracey and Debra Morse of Hannibal, NY; Tony and Tanya Morse of Fulton, NY and Michael Morse (deceased).
His working years were spent working for Cudahy Meat, Prudential Insurance Company and as the Owner for many years of Springville Floral. His love of all things growing and his knowledge of flowers blessed the lives of many. He respected all who entered his shop providing the best customer service from the high school girls ordering one carnation for their prom date, to the largest customers for weddings and funerals.
Floyd's life was one of service:
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He served his community as a volunteer firefighter for 34 years and as President of the Utah State Firemens Association, Chief of Springville Volunteer Fire Department, as a member of the Springville City Counsel, President of the Utah Allied Florist Association and President of the Utah FTD Florist's Association and as the Landscape Artist for the Springville City properties, including the Art Gallery, City Hall, Library and city parks for many years.
Although his family is proud of his life of service they all will say that his life was spent in service to them, the ones he loved. Floyd and LaRae raised four of his siblings, Jay, Jean, Ruth and Howard after the death of their mother and became as a father to them along with his four children, Patricia, David, Ronald Craig, and Carolyn. His great posterity includes 30 grand children, 60 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren, all of who revere and honor him and who know individually that Grandpa loved them dearly. Grandpa's biggest smiles were when he was holding a grandchild on his lap and he could always make them smile as well.
None of us will ever forget the lasting friendships he forged with his many friends who called him Brigg, while playing cards, traveling or at reunions with Army buddies who he said were the reason any of them survived serving during WWII. It is often said that Floyd never knew any strangers. All he met soon became friends.
Among Floyd's favorite activities were family reunions, family vacations, friend vacations and Army buddy reunions. If some one wanted to go on a vacation he was the first to volunteer as "The Tour Guide" to accompany and/or plan the trip. No matter whether it was a trip half way around the world or a ride around the lake it was the same to him, quality time spent with family and friends and each trip turned into an education for those lucky enough to be in his company. He always learned details of where they were traveling and lovingly taught all who would listen.
His loving wife Joanne, his children and grandchildren who adored him will miss Floyd. He was preceded in death by his eternal companion LaRae Thorpe Stewart, his parents, his brother Alan Stewart, his sisters Jean Bills, Dorothy Stewart and Delores Stewart and his stepson Michael Morse.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on �������Thursday, January 8, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 672 North 250 West, Springville, Utah. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the same LDS Church, Spring Creek 14th Ward Chapel and prior to the service on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
