Evelyn Grace (Gloeckner) Arnold, 92, a residence of Layton, Utah, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014, of natural causes, at the Legacy Village in Layton.
Evelyn was born on January 20, 1922, in Pomeroy, Ohio, the daughter of George and Grace Gloeckner. She was the youngest of three children, her older brother John, and her sister Reva May. She graduated from East Mifflin High School near Gahanna, OH. During World War II, she worked in the Boeing bomber factory in Columbus, OH.
She met David Smith Arnold at Fort Benning, GA. They married August 23, 1947, at Fort Lewis, WA. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 22, 1953. They lived in Germany, Japan, and a number of states while her husband served in the US Army. When he retired from the army, they moved to Canoga Park, CA, and raised their children. After he retired from his second career in aerospace software engineering, she and her husband settled in Springville, UT, where she lived for about 16 years.
She was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed sharing the gospel with others. She served in many church callings including the Primary and Relief Society. She loved family history work, and had previously been a worker at the Provo Temple.
She is survived by Geoff and Linda Arnold, Daphne and Rick Wells, Matt and Clareen Arnold, and Bruce and Cydney Arnold, and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014, at the LDS Chapel at 439 South Canyon Road, Springville, UT. The viewing begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00. The interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery immediately following the service.
