1914~2013
Even though she lived a long full life of 98 plus years, it's still hard to say goodbye to Eva Ruth Dickman Shepardson who left a big hole in our hearts and went home on January 3, 2013. She leaves behind her devoted children, Dale and Deanna Shepardson, Ruth and Drew Christiansen, Ellyn and Kim Berrett, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was thrilled to be the matriarch of five generations! She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, 4 sisters, her sweetheart "Shep", and her beloved grandson Eric J. Christiansen.
She was born in Sunnyside, Utah, April 25, 1914 to Henry and Charity Dickman, and raised in Woodside, Utah where she swam in a geyser, explored the desert and went to school in a one-room schoolhouse. She was the only one in her family to graduate from high school which she did in 1932 from Carbon High.
She was married to Welton Arthur, "Shep", Shepardson January 14, 1937 in Las Vegas, Nevada and was sealed to him November 15, 2002 in the Manti Temple. They lived all over the western states while Shep worked construction jobs finally settling in Orem in 1942. She sold Avon for an impressive 35 years where she was always a member of the Presidents Club. She truly loved her clients and their families and would still be selling today if her health permitted. After Shep's retirement she lived for 16 years in dual residences between Orem and Mount Pleasant moving to Mount Pleasant full time in 1988. In 2004 she moved back to Utah County where she remained til her death.
She was very accepting - found something good in each person - and always said that no two people think alike. Everyone was always welcome and no one ever went home hungry. She enjoyed tying fleece blankets and literally gave thousands away to family, friends, the homeless, elderly and missionaries. She called herself "The Knottiest Girl in Mapleton" and was happy to share warmth wherever she could.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, January 9th at 11:00 in the Spanish Highlands Ward located at 100 South 2188 East in Spanish Fork. A viewing will be held for one hour prior to the services in the same building with interment following in the Salem City Cemetery.
